Hi, I am Willy. The picture above shows a restaurant in downtown Reykjavik where I ate whale and puffin meats. I took this picture when I visited Iceland a few years ago. I like interesting ingredients in my cooking and I like to travel everywhere in the world to taste their local cuisines. I have traveled to most of the countries in Europe, but there are still many places in the world I would like to visit.
Heston Blumenthal has this quote by Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935) in his book, The Fat Duck Cookbook, “Cooking is a science and an art, and the man who puts all his heart into satisfying his fellow men deserves consideration.” I had the opportunity to dine in one of Blumenthal’s restaurants in London, called Dinner. For every item in the menu, there is a description of the origin of the dish. One of the dishes I ate is called Salamagundy (circa 1720) where the main ingredient is chicken oysters.
My motivation to cook and cook very well is to bring joy and satisfaction to my fellow men. This is aligned with my Christian belief of serving others, and therefore the reason for me to learn to cook.
I recently found a blog that caught my interest, which I hope to emulate. It is about world cuisines. The blogger, Darlene, provides very good insight regarding cuisines from many countries in the world. If you are interested: https://www.internationalcuisine.com/
